CASE STUDY Jacksonville, Florida demolished a pedestrian footbridge across a canal. The project included re-grading the canal side slopes and establishing vegetation to withstand the impact of high velocity flows in the canal. The project also included the installation of offsite storm water collection drains and the associated concrete end walls into the canal. SITUATION Woodruff Avenue Pedestrian Bridge Jacksonville,FL The canal side slopes were graded to provide an even surface and T-Recs was installed with 12”steel pins, with a 0.20”(5mm) body diameter and a 11/2”(38mm) steel washer at the head of the pin. Bohia sod was installed on top of the T-Recs and the roots grew down through the T-Recs to form a strong composite mat of established vegetation. Once the storm drainage system was installed,T-Recs, an East Coast Erosion Control, LLC exclusive high-performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (TRM) was installed on the side slopes of the canal. T-Recs unique high tensile strength dome shaped characteristics provide greater surface area to retain more seed, sod, and water per square foot. T-Recs is an ideal resilient, flexible non-hard armoring solution for high velocity flow channels. SOLUTION The installation was completed in the spring and fully established vegetation was observed within the growing season. The T-Recs provided a natural look within a residential area and afforded the canal with protection from the impact of high velocity flow.
