CASE STUDY Water main utilities were installed in the public roadways to provide greater service to the west side of Charlotte, NC. Airport Road, adjacent to the eastern perimeter of the airport, was reconstructed and elevated as part of the project. The new roadway had 2:1 side slopes on either side. SITUATION Airport Road Project Charlotte,NC The designer specified an organic matrix based Turf Reinforcement Mat consisting of 100% coconut fiber with triple nets of UV stabilized polypropylene to provide erosion protection and rapid establishment vegetation on the side slopes. SOLUTION East Coast Erosion Blankets ECC-3 Turf Reinforcement Mat was chosen as the product to stabilize the side slopes. ECC-3 is an organic-based product with a 335% tested improvement performance in encouraging seed germination and plant growth. Full stands of vegetation were observed within weeks after application of ECC-3.
